  Gabriel stepped out into the night. It surprised him that Tristan had given him as much time as he had. When the telepathic instructions had come from his Alpha to come out to the clearing he’d obeyed immediately, managing to not awaken Carrie in the process.

  He blinked as he saw his brothers. All of them. With Cullen and Angel with them.

  “Are you all going to throw me off the cliff?”

  Theo laughed. “We thought we might save that for the future.”

  “You missed my speech.” Tristan scowled at him. “It was a good talk. I’d thought about saying it for years.”

  “Would you like to give it again?” Gabriel walked closer to them.

  Angel grinned. “Please don’t do that. Once was more than enough. I can only get hoorayed over things once a day.”

  “I’ve been trying to think about what to do with you, brother.” Tristan stepped closer. “And I think I’ve come up with a sufficient punishment for you.”

  Gabriel nodded. “Whatever you wish, my Alpha.”

  “Whatever I wish?” Tristan put his hands out like he stretched. “Did you hear that Cullen? Whatever I want?”

  “I heard him.” Cullen never smiled but this time he grinned. “Make him live up to that.”

  “You have to stay here. Forever. With all of us. You have to resume your duties. You have to make babies with your mate. You have to stay Uncle Gabriel to our kids. You don’t ever get to leave us.” Michael shrugged.

  “Except, you know, if you want a vacation,” Az added.

  “Or if we send you to the mainland to get something,” Rex finished.

  “I don’t understand. That’s not a punishment.”

  His wolf’s ears perked up. He didn’t get it either.

  Tristan raised his hand. “I don’t want to argue with you. You said you’d take your punishment as I dished it out. And this is what I decided. Living without a wolf, living without your mate. Keeping all of us alive. How else would I punish you? Except perhaps to remind you that I’m always here and if things go astray in your life, family is always there for you.”

  “I know that. I just didn’t know what to do. I had to keep Carrie alive. I had to keep all of you safe.”

  “Gabriel.” Tristan hugged him. “I forgive you. We all do. Your punishment is you get to come home and stay here with us. For as long as you want.”

  “Thank you, brother.”

  Tristan nodded. “Now sit down with us. We’re all here to watch the sun rise and since that’s hours away we might as well take a load off.”

  “As you wish.” He sat down. What was the feeling inside of him? He couldn’t quite make it out.

  “You know, eventually”—Theo laughed—“our mates are going to come looking for us.”

  “Yes, and?” Tristan leaned back against a large rock.

  “And are we just going to let them find us or should we lead them on a chase?”

  “I think the boy wants to run.” Gabriel stood up. “You know we always give our younger brothers what they want.”

  “I couldn’t have said it better.” Tristan rose. A white light surrounded his body as he shifted into his wolf form.

  “None of you can catch me. I’m Alpha after all.”

  Gabriel laughed, letting his shift come over him. They’d see about that.
